Original maritime sculpture · Brixham, Devon

Small vessels.
Long histories.

One-of-one maritime sculptures, built by hand and weathered with a lifetime of imagined stories.

01 / The studio

Built slowly. Aged deliberately.

Not replicas of what was.
Fragments of what might have been.

From a Brixham workbench, Tideworn Studio creates characterful maritime sculpture inspired by working vessels, forgotten harbours and the marks left behind by weather, water and time.

Every piece is designed, constructed and finished by Scott Matthews. No two vessels share the same scars—and every one carries its own name, number and history.

Mollie 001

A tired little working boat, sitting out another low tide beside a harbour wall that has seen better days.

Mollie began as timber, wire, card and found detail. Layer by layer she acquired peeling paint, broken glazing, worn ropes and the quiet dignity of something built to work rather than to be admired. Her harbour setting makes her a complete narrative sculpture: a moment at the waterline, held still.

Every surface is considered. Every imperfection has a reason.

The wheelhouse

A hand-built helm, worn boards and a darkened interior suggest the working life that came before.

Broken wheelhouse glazing and a detached timber door on Mollie
02

Weather has entered

Broken glazing and a door hanging from its hinges suggest a vessel long left to the elements.

03

Her name is Mollie

Scarred red paint, softened timber and a tired tyre fender carry the marks of a working life.

04

A working hull

Layered paint, tide marks and improvised fenders reward a closer, slower look.

05

At the waterline

Harbour stone, rusted chain, weed and cracked tidal mud give the vessel a place it seems to remember.

06

The harbour ladder

Corroded iron disappears into the tide line: a quiet detail borrowed from Brixham's working harbour.

Tideworn brings together a lifetime spent designing, making and photographing. Each sculpture begins with a loose idea and finds its story at the workbench—one timber, rivet and tide mark at a time. The vessels are made in Brixham, shaped by the character and working heritage of the harbour outside the studio.
